Redwood High School's filmmaking talent shone brightly at the 2025 Slick Rock Student Film Festival, Central California's premier film competition for middle and high school students! The annual awards ceremony, held at the Visalia Fox Theatre on May 9, 2025, celebrated the remarkable achievements of students from seven Central Valley counties. Out of over 430 videos submitted by more than 970 students from 49 schools, Redwood High School emerged with several top honors.
Most notably, "The Orbit" was awarded the prestigious High School "Best of Show", created by Jesus Rivera Lopez, acted by Lily Seargeant, edited by Hannah Johnson, and production-assisted by Sef Feierbach and Omar Juarez Panama. The same talented team also won in the Blockbuster category for "The Orbit." Redwood's success extended to other categories as well: Ares Avila, Grace Hyatt, and Jaden Gutierrez won for their "Visit Visalia PSA" in the General PSA category. "Melody Gone Wrong", written and sung by Jared Calvillo, produced by Autumn Batti, filmed by Jesus Rivera Lopez and Lily Seargeant, edited by Hannah Johnson. The dance performance was led by Machela Pasquini. This well-crafted film project took home the 1st place prize for Original Music Video.
In the News Broadcast category, Grace Hyatt, Hannah Johnson, Erik Navarro, and Tony Thompson were recognized for "Tony's Strength", a segment about his fight with cancer and his message of faith. "Redwood Friday Night Lights" by Vincent Barber, Hannah Johnson, Savannah LaRue, Analyz Mendoza, Erik Navarro, and Titus Silapachai won for Sports Highlights.
